Bribie Family History Association is for people interested in genealogy and family history.
We meet at the RSL ANZAC Room on the 1st Friday of the month.
From February to December, from 9:15 am to 11:30 am.
Note: the 1st Friday in April 2026 is Good Friday, and there is no April meeting this year,
Annual membership fee applies. For those joining after 30 June, a 50% discount applies for your first year.
Visitors welcome, 1st visit free.
Occasional Workshops are held annually for specialised subjects. Details of upcoming events are on the 'Meetings and Workshops' tab. These are usually half-day or full-day events with an additional (moderate) charge. Members receive a discount on this charge.

History Queensland Inc - Membership of this association consists of duly constituted genealogical, family history or historical societies in the State of Queensland.
Oral History Queensland - Membership consists of a diverse range of people who are interested in oral history and gives us access to meetings, oral history work, book reviews and advice on techniques and equipment.
Guest Speakers for our August Meeting
Our next meeting will be held on Friday, 7th August, at Bribie RSL Anzac Room at 9:15 am.
Our guest speakers for this meeting will be Philip and Gail Challis.
Phil and Gail currently serve as coordinators of the Brisbane Australia Family Search Centre, offering discovery experiences, with a particular focus on those beginning their family history journey.
Phil began his family history journey as a university student, "trawling" the Tasmanian Archives while awaiting meetings in Hobart. As a member of a local Family History Library in Launceston, he supported purchases of microfilm and microfiche to build the library's resources.
Phil has a keen interest in preserving records, and in 2018 digitised the journal "Record of Members of the Tasmanian District of the Australian Mission" from 1896 through to 1970 before sending the original to Family Search.
Gail describes herself as a beginner in the family history arena; however, she has a sound grasp of Family Tree and FamilySearch combined with a great love of family history. In 2025, Gail's cousin discovered a trove of 100-year-old missionary postcards. Phil digitised these and negotiated their transfer to FamilySearch.
In 2019, while serving a mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mudgee, NSW, they both conducted a highly successful family history booth at monthly markets. Through this medium they provided a service of free support to those searching for ancestral records. People from as far as Canberra and the Gold Coast took advantage of their generosity.
The topic of their talk is: “Rescuing Records & Searching Smarter".
Come along and experience an overview of the services available at the Brisbane FamilySearch Centre, and new developments in FamilySearch. We will be given experiences that highlight Phil's journey in family history. This may provide members with suggestions that uncover opportunities to build and preserve family history records, and improve your confidence using local resources within your reach. New FamilySearch developments will also be explored that may enhance search strategies and improve search results, including the use of full-text search and AI. FamilySearch Labs will also be discussed as a tool for providing input and feedback to help the further development of FamilySearch.

Annual BFHA Membership is $30.00 for a single and $50.00 per couple.
Note that 2026 memberships start from the February 6 meeting and any members who have not renewed and are wanting to continue, please note that fees are due now.
