Weekly Member's Workshops
We have completed running a trial at Bribie Island Library offering members a problem solving workshop each week. By this "coming together", a measured level of success has been achieved.
This program is now running "free-of-charge" for eight weeks, and is open to any member who wishes to attend. Commencement was from Tuesday 6 October, 1.00 pm to 3 pm. You do not need to register, just turn up. President David will be coordinating this group and is prepared to assist participants interpret their DNA results.
To get the most benefit from this programme it is ecommended that you enrol as a Library user with a card and User Number to access the computer resources. Participants have access to Ancestry, Find My Past, FamilySearch, Trove and other online resources to help resolve individual problems.
Special Events
This year, the Bribie Family History Association facilitated a whole-day, two-session workshop on DNA. Renowned genealogist Helen Smith hosted this on 11 July at the Bribie Island Arts Centre.
Both sessions were well attended, and participants were introduced to Ancestry DNA tests and shown how to deal with confusing results. The afternoon session was more advanced, providing a practical introduction using case studies on the use of autosomal DNA in genealogical problem-solving, with a focus on the analytical tools and methodologies used by today’s genetic genealogists after using the tools at Ancestry or MyHeritage.
MORETON BAY 2026 HISTORY SEMINAR
On 1st September, at the Morayfield Sports & Community Centre, we manned a display table at this annual event put on by the City of Moreton Bay. This gave us, and other local history organisations, the opportunity to expose the activities of our Association to a wider sphere of the general public.
